Urban Inuk Art+Apparel

Colorful and Abstract digital art designs, with Northern inspirations

BIOGRAPHY-Gabriel Nuraki Uqaituk

As an Urban Inuk Digital Artist, born and raised in Montreal, Qc, expressing my Inuk identity has often been challenging. Art has helped me navigate and share my inner self. Encouraged by my mother, who provided art materials and drawing classes, I learned to channel my creativity. Growing up during the rise of home computers and the Internet also fueled my curiosity and inspired my artistic journey.

Over the years, I’ve gained significant experience with digital tools as my primary medium of self-expression. I hold a degree in Commercial Photography, have 15 years of experience with Photoshop and graphic design programs, co-directed a documentary, and exhibited my digital prints in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Istanbul. Through it all, my Inuk roots remain central, drawing inspiration from my great-grandfather, Aisa Koperqualuk, a pioneer in Inuit carving and the cooperative movement in Nunavik.

My digital works explore abstract realms influenced by fractal geometry, psychedelic art, Inuit symbolism, and creative spirit. I enjoy incorporating Inuit archival photos and Arctic animal imagery into my art. I am deeply inspired by the wealth of Inuit stories, books, movies, and music in both traditional and contemporary forms.
